Stories are an important part of how we get a glimpse through doors God has opened in and through us at RockPointe Church. Check out this collection of stories to see how your generosity is opening doors in our church, city, and in the world.

For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.

I’m a widow beyond years of being able to work to raise money. I live on Social Security and a very small pension. However, I discovered resources to help me meet my commitment!

What gets you most excited about engaging in the Opening Doors initiative?
Growing and planting more churches to reach all people searching for the Lord. We can help!

As we prepare our commitment for Opening Doors, my mind goes back to early marriage and how God taught me about giving. My husband was in school when we married and I brought home our only paycheck. I had never given regularly to my church – my childhood example was watching my parents put a $20 bill in the offering plate on occasion, and that was it. When my husband left school and went to work full time, his first paycheck came in. He sat down and wrote a check to the church for 10% of his pay. I asked him about that and he explained that he believed that he should honor God by giving a tithe of earnings to the church, but had not discussed it with me since he was not contributing to our household income for the first months of our marriage. I jumped in and said we needed to start giving 10% of my pay also. So we did. We began a pattern of giving that was small in dollars and big in trust from that time on.

Fast forward a couple of years – we are in our first little house with hand-me-down furniture. For my birthday, my dad gave me 2 lamps for our living room – I used the boxes that the lamps came in to make end tables by adding a square of particle board on top and covering the boxes with a little tablecloth made from a sheet. We were happy – and frugal – and didn’t have a lot extra. Our church wanted to create some new space for discipleship and we wanted to be a part of giving toward it. So we committed $40 per week for 3 years on top of our regular giving. That doesn’t sound like much now, but it was a lot to us then. And guess what? We found out that you can’t out-give God.

Over the years we have had other opportunities to give, but I don’t think anything will ever be as special as that first step of faith in giving. So we’re ready to Open Doors – and we pray that others will, too!

What gets you most excited about engaging in the Opening Doors initiative?
We have been at RockPointe for about 17 months and love what God is doing here. The people, the vision, the warmth and friendliness are all drawing others to Jesus. We want to be a part of it all!
